Dr. James Adams“Autism Is Treatable! A Biomedical Approach” featuring Dr. James Adams, Ph.D., Director of the Autism/Asperger’s Research Program at Arizona State University.
This workshop will provide an overview of what we now know about autism, including the role of genetics and possible environmental causes. Dr. Adams will discuss dietary, nutritional, and medical treatment options that have a published research basis. He will also discuss abnormalities found in the gut bacteria, including their effects on behavior and a novel treatment option that is part of current research.

MARCH 31 | LOW-TECH PERCEPTUAL SUPPORTS FOR PEOPLE WITH ASDs

People with autism spectrum disorders often process external stimuli differently than neuro-typicals. Deb Kroetsch knows this better than most.
As an adult with Asperger’s, Deb is keenly aware of how the environment affects her. Sensory overload and shutdown causes her real psychological pain; feeling like going into emotional shock, followed by grieving. This workshop will provide an overview of some low-tech supports, designed and built by Deb herself, that provide the defense system she needs to protect against sensory overload. You will come away with a better understanding of how sensory overload can affect someone with autism, and ideas for how to protect against it. 6-8 pm at the Hamburg Resource Center.
