The World Looks Different From Here

In 2012, the Arts Work for Autism Services
program reached its 10th year of assisting artists on the autism spectrum, sharing their work with the community, and offering the public a peek into the enigmatic world of autism. In the course of a decade these artists have won awards and exhibited their work at alternative venues and on gallery walls throughout Buffalo and the Western New York area. Our artists are diverse in their choices of media, process, and subject matter. The special intellectual and sensory characteristics of autism often lead our artists to interpret language, sound, texture, and movement as pure sensory elements and translate them into their own visual language for the viewer. Their work invites us to look twice and reconsider the commonplace elements of our world that may otherwise be overlooked and ignored.
